Assignment submission

Please note, the instructions below are for distance education students only, not internal or fully online students.

Complete your assignment according to the guidelines given in your Plan or Unit Outline. Make sure you keep a copy of your work - a photocopy is better than a draft. While all care is taken, the University accepts no responsibility for lost assignments. Unless your Plan or Unit Outline states otherwise, assignments may be submitted in either an electronic or print format. You should employ one submission method only per assignment. If you are required to submit an audiotape, video, pamphlet or other material unable to be submitted by email or fax, you shuold utilise only mail or hand-delivery submission methods. Please ensure you follow the instructions for submission outlined below.

1. Electronic submission
2. Print-based submission
3. Guidelines for assignment submission

1. Electronic Submission

Please note : Distance Education does not have a colour printer. Emailed submissions are printed in black and white only. If you require your assignment to be submitted in colour you must utilise either post or hand-delivery submission methods.

  • Complete an electronic Assignment Attachment Form. All sections must be completed . [Mac users: hold down Ctrl key, click link and save file to disk or download link to disk.] Each assignment submission will require a separate, completed form.
  • Read the Declaration section of the form carefully and refer to the website if you require more information. Type your name into the Signature field to confirm that the assignment is your own work.
  • Save your file in a Microsoft compatible format such as Word.doc, RichTextFormat.rtf, Excel.xls, PowerPoint.ppt or Adobe PDF.
  • Set paper size in page setup to A4 to ensure it will print as displayed on your screen.
  • Insert your name, student number and the unit title into the header of your assignment document so that this information appears on every page .
  • Number each page and view Print Preview to check how it will print.
  • Create an email attaching the completed form and assignment documents (you should not submit more than 3 or 4 attachments per assignment). Ensure your subject line clearly identifies your name, the unit name and assignment number.
  • Send the email to: de-assignments@curtin.edu.au. DO NOT mark your email as 'private', 'confidential' or 'sensitive'. Due to the nature of the inbox, emails with these settings are hidden and will be neither seen nor received by Distance Education staff.
  • You will receive an automated email within minutes advising you that your email has been delivered to the Distance Education Inbox.
  • A manual response will also be sent once your email has been read and attended to. You should read this response carefully as this will confirm safe receipt of your assignment or let you know if there were issues with your submission. If you have not received this manual response within 2 business days you must contact Distance and Open Learning.
  • Submit one assignment per email only.

Please note assignments are printed on white A4 size paper using black ink only. Assignments exceeding 40 pages will be printed double-sided.

2. Print-based submission

When completing this form, take special care to include your Curtin student number, the full name and index number of your unit, your address and your tutor's name.
  • Read and sign the declaration to confirm that the assignment is your own work.
  • Attach the completed form to the front of your assignment.

3. Guidelines for assignment submission

  • DO NOT send assignments directly to your tutor unless instructed specifically in your Unit Plan/Outline
  • You must send your assignment in time to reach Curtin by the due date. Distance Education staff will record the date of receipt and forward the assignment to your tutor. Due to the large volume of mail received on a daily basis, date of postage is not taken into account.
  • Unless otherwise requested by the Unit Coordinator, assignments will be marked and returned to you in hard copy.
  • Keep a copy of all assignments submitted. A photocopy is better than a draft.
